Exit Interview

1. Comment about your work ethic in this course and why.
 ...be honest here

I had a solid work ethic during the course because I enjoyed it, but near the end it started to decline

 2. Which assignments did you enjoy and why?
... list them out

Photoshop: It was fun editing pictures and learning how to use the software

and Premiere pro for the same reasons, but with video editing.

SketchUp: 3D modeling was cool

 3. Which assignments did you struggle with and why?
...list them out

Raft: I didn't enjoy the game that much due to the fact that you'd be progressing and then just hit a brick wall because you don't have enough of a certain item to make anymore stuff to improve your raft.

Thunkable: That man's voice is a torture method

Game Journalism: Day 4

Upgrade or Nah?

Fishing rod?

Upgrade if you got the grill to use it

It catches bigger fish which provide more, but can't be cooked on the small grill.
It also looks nicer.

Hook?

Upgrade it ASAP my guy

The upgraded hook lasts longer and pulls in faster than the plastic one. It can also be thrown farther.

This needs 3 more dry bricks before it can continue

Also current raft

Game Journalism: Play Day 4

If I were to start over what would I do?

  1. Collect resources with the hook (especially barrels cause they have food sometimes)
  2. Expand my raft so I can put things down and just have more space in general
  3. Step 1 again
  4. Make a water purifier so I can make drinkable water
  5. Step 1 again
  6. Make a simple grill so I can cook food
  7. step 1 again
  8. Make a fishing rod for easy access to food
  9. Step 1 again
  10. Make a few nets so I don't have to do step 1 again

What is the best tool for survival?

Probably a water purifier, since you can't really get water anywhere else and it's necessary to live.

What's the best feature on my raft?

My favourite thing on my raft is the little net that collects stuff so I don't have to. It lets me build more without having to constantly throw my hook.

Game Journalism: Day 3

I also went and foraged on an island

Raft

What did I do today?

Today I made a sail and tried to figure out how it works. I'm still not 100% sure because it seems as if it just goes in the direction you point it, but then sometimes it doesn't. There may be some wind mechanic involved or something. I also managed to visit some of the other rafts that can be seen floating near you thanks to the sail.

What did I learn?

I learned that the sail goes in the direction you send it until you get too close to something useful, then your probably supposed to drop an anchor and swim over. Also fishing is the #1 way to get food.

What am I going to do tomorrow?

Probably try to get an anchor or seventeen and explore some islands & the shallow waters around them

My Raft

I added a sail so I could visit islands and I added stairs to start expanding upwards. I have a hole in the middle so that A) it's easier to get water for the purifier, & B) so that if I have an anchor down there the shark is less likely to eat that square

Game Journalism: Day 1

Raft

Raft is a survival game where you're stuck on a raft set adrift in a big open sea. You need to find food, drinkable water, and resources to help you survive. The resources can be found floating in the sea next to your raft

You can pick up resources with your hand or hook. There are lots of resources for different things like
 wood

Wood is one of the most important resources you can gather as it is used to cook food, purify water, expand your raft, and build weapons & tools.

Palm Leaves

Palm leaves come in groups of  3 or by themselves. They can be used in making tools like a fishing rod, which can be crucial for getting food while lost at see. They're also used for making pretty much every other tool.

Plastic

Plastic floats by in bottles and corners of red trays or something. They can be used to make a new plastic hook for collecting resources when the one you have breaks or you die. You can also make plastic cups to get saltwater for a purifier so can get clean drinking water. Very important for not dying.

Barrels

BARRELS ARE VERY IMPORTANT. They're full of useful resources like stone (needed for an anchor) or the odd bit of food. they give off a lot of wood and palm leaves, sometimes plastic (all useful for building)

You can collect the debris with your hook (as shown above.) The hook breaks down as you use it with each grab, but you can grab multiple items at a time and can grab items that are farther away. You can also use your hand to grab items as they drift by by pressing 'E' and it automatically goes into your inventory.

There's also a shark that likes to bite you and your raft. To stop it you need to make a spear and stab him when he bites your raft. if you stab it enough it dies and another replaces it.

My Raft

Why did I die?

I died mostly when I didn't have my grill and fishing rod. Since I've gotten those I haven't died much but I still need to make a sail and anchors.

Game Journalism: Play day 1

Raft

Raft is a game about being lost at sea on a raft. You have to survive sharks, scarcity of food, and finding/ making drinkable water.

What did I do today?

Today I expanded my raft, added a purifier, a storage unit, made a fishing rod, spear, and builder hammer. I also made an anchor but lost it.

What did I learn about the game?

  • As you use stuff it breaks more and more until it's completely broken
  • if you die you lose your hook everything on you including the hook, but you respawn on your raft
  • the sharks bites off pieces of your raft
  • you grab multiple things at a time with your hook
  • barrels sometimes have food/ over valuable resources for building
  • you can make a spear to fight the shark with when he tries to bites your raft

Tomorrow's goal

build an anchor and visit an island
